One Childhood, 9 Different Stories...
Hello, !
I am the oldest in a family of 9 siblings.
I learned a LONG time ago—our stories about our past don’t always line up.
(Unless we rehearsed them before Mom and Dad got back…ahem)
Crazy how we all grew up with the same parents, in
the same house…
and ended up with totally different perspectives.
One childhood, 9 different stories.
9 opinions on
- who was right (me)
- Who was wrong (my brother)
- Who was Mom’s favorite (I was her favorite oldest child, FYI)
- And who broke the dish (nobody saw anything)
9 different perspectives on the pros and cons of growing up
– in a large family
– in the country
– in church
– on a farm
This used to bewilder me…
Until I realized: there’s a difference between facts and our stories about those facts.
And, newsflash—the story carries more weight than the facts.
It lingers
longer.
It shapes how we see ourselves, what we believe is possible, and how we show up—decades later.
And good news—it’s rewritable.
You are not stuck because of your past.
You’re stuck because of the story you’re still telling yourself about your past.
That you’re behind.
That you’re too much—or not enough.
That you’re responsible for everyone else’s happiness.
That if you just try harder, you’ll finally feel peace.
This week’s video in the Made for More series is all about this:
How to Rewrite the Story You're Living From (in 3 Steps)
