I used to work for a small business. There were 3 people total - the owner, the owner’s wife, and me. As an introvert, it was literally the perfect job setup for me.
The couple were Christians, like me. Every once in awhile, the owner would get excited about a new idea or plan, and say, “Now that is sexy.” His wife (whom I adored - best co-worker EVER!!!) would always say, “Honey, don’t say stuff like that!”
It made me smile every time, because I knew what he meant. He was not being inappropriate - he was just using the informal definition of the word “sexy” (Yes, I’m the nerdy type that actually looked up
the definition before I wrote this email)
Anyhoo - that is a long and pointless intro to explain why I am saying it that way - “Simple is
Sexy”.
Not because I’m trying to get gratuitous attention by showing a flash of skin (which is what we think “sexy” means), but because some ideas are
so interesting that they grab and hold your attention.
We think people want all the bells and whistles - especially when we’re trying to sell them
something (or sell them ON something - same difference)
But Simple is Sexy. Simple is so rare in this overly-connected world that it stands out
as a rare and precious jewel.
Simple means doable. Doable means possible. And possible gives our clients HOPE - hope that they are capable
of achieving that thing that has frustrated them for far too long.
Simple Sales.
Simple Business Plan.
Simple formula for success.
Simple message.
Like Jesus, the greatest salesman ever, who said,
“Come unto me, ye who are burdened and weary and I will give you rest.”
Or when he told the woman at the well, “Drink of my water and you will never
thirst again.”
WHAAAT?
Who DOESN’T want that?
One of my FAVORITE things to do is to ask myself,
- What feels complicated in my business, relationship, or life?
- What if it could be simple?
- What would that look like?
Remember, when it feels SIMPLE, it seems DOABLE, which gets us excited to GET IT DONE.
COMPLICATED = CONFUSING
SIMPLE = SUCCESS
Pretty sexy, right???
