A wisdom lesson in tragedy...
Hello,
What we say matters.
And it matters a LOT.
Last week, someone tried to kill Donald
Trump.
He was only 20 years old.
To put it into context - when he was 12, he probably had no idea who Donald Trump was.
But by the time he is 20, he is willing to die in an attempt to kill Trump.
He lived his life for the purpose of ending someone else’s.
Why?
Most likely, because he did not understand that “life and death are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it will eat the fruit thereof.”
We are speaking words of life or words of death.
We are listening to words of life or words of death.
There’s no doubt about it - most media is sharing words of death -
Social media and news
media.
And those two sources are influencing us,
Conforming us,
Potentially corrupting us.
We humans were created to FEEL.
It’s how we connect -
In Joy, in sorrow, in outrage.
Our souls long for connection.
And in the absence of joy,
And in the avoidance of sorrow -
We’re left with outrage.
It makes us MAD,
But we feel alive.
And so we get addicted to hearing and speaking words of death -
- About ourselves
- About our circumstances
- About others
Until one day, a 20 year old decides to make his whole existence about ending the existence of an 80 year old.
Because he believed the message he heard,
And the many, many messages of death
Drowned out the whispers of life.
Let’s learn from his tragic mistake.
Keep your heart with all
diligence,
For out of it are the issues of life. (Proverbs 4:23 KJV)
Above all, be careful what you think,
Because your thoughts control your life. (Proverbs 4:23 MSG)
Tune out any tongue in your life - be it news or social media or friend or leader - whose words provoke you to outrage.
You have a life that’s infinitely priceless -
A life that only you can live well
Instead of the news, instead of social media,
listen to your soul.
That’s how God speaks.
