Hello, !
Steven Covey changed my life with one drawing.
I believe it was in his book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
He drew a circle within another circle.
The bigger circle was labeled “Area of concern”
The smaller, inner circle was labeled “area of influence”
There are many things outside our ability to control that concern us -
the nation’s economy, other people’s lives, wars, elections
And then there’s the smaller circle of things that we have influence over -
my family’s finances, my life, the impact I can have on other people’s lives, the vote I can cast in an election
The game changer is putting MOST
of our time, energy, and attention to the smaller circle.
So I recently did a workshop called “Find Your Focus”
That is NOT what I’m saying is “too good” to miss out on.
Because that would be ridiculously arrogant.
But here’s what IS too good to miss out on -
YOUR LIFE.
Here’s a snippet -
When we look at our life, if we are not intentional about guarding our focus, about choosing what’s important to us, then we will by default be giving our attention to other people’s lives - their dramas.
What deserves your highest attention is Your Life, Your Dreams, Your Goals, Your Future.
Don’t allow yourself to be distracted.
It’s not SELFISH to focus on your goals - it’s actually Good Stewardship of the most precious asset you’ve been given - YOUR OWN LIFE.
Because by learning how to improve our lives, we automatically improve the lives of those around us - our family, our friends, and our community.
Good things in life do not happen by accident.
It takes clarity, intention, and focus on simple, steady action.
And ANYTHING can be turned into a goal - even more ambiguous things like “make a
difference in the world” or “find a life partner”.
